A Twinkle in my Eye

As I sit at the computer typing away, a quick jab makes me jump, and stop. I look up from my monitor at the corkboard behind it, at the 7 little black & white images of YOU, at 24 weeks. YOU are the little miracle in my belly, which is asking for attention more every day. I gaze at these pictures, and see your strong profile. “Definitely has the nose from my side of the family”. I look at these pictures and smile, remembering the struggle the technician had while trying to take your picture, you were moving to a different beat the whole time. They just don’t know that YOU have been dancing with me for many weeks already. I watch as she scans your body, your heart, your kidneys, your back, NO, NO, skip that part!, your legs, your toes. Then we go back to your head, and I see your beautiful face. Your big sister thinks you don’t look like an alien anymore. 

YOU are already almost 26 weeks old as I write this. I cant’ believe how time has passed, and how you are growing away with so little fuss. YOU are my second miracle child, and the preparation for your debut are much more subtle. I know now that my body knows what is best for you, and I can feel your strength. Before I know it, I will be holding YOU in my arms.

 As I gaze at your image and tickle your feet, I wonder: Am I giving YOU enough thought? Do YOU know how much I anticipate your arrival and presence in this family? My busy life and responsibilities don’t leave much time for sitting back and talking to YOU, though my thoughts are on YOU all the time. How am I going to do, as the mother of two? Sometimes I wonder how I am doing as the mother of your big sister. She will be your idol; I just know you two will be as one.

So here we sit together, burning the midnight oil. I was told to sleep more, but YOU and I are both night owls. They don’t know you wake me up when I sleep early, to show me your new twists and turns. YOU dance and I create, we make a good team.

Bynote:.."Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is Benjamin's (then still known as YOU) favorte song to sing at 2.5yrs :)...And we still burn the Midnight Oil together more than not!
