The Oasis by H. Boehnke-Sharp
Outside the lawnmower shrieks,
The leaf blower howls,
The dogs are barking at an unseen fiend.
I hear the phone ring, and let the machine answer.
You and I lay on the bed, surrounded by week’s worth of laundry.
Skin to skin, belly on belly.
You are nursing to a steady rhythm,
Oblivious to the noise and world around you.
You and I are nature’s perfected machinery.
Your rhythm eases my tensions,
Your warmth and surrender wash away my cares.
I close my eyes and focus on you.
The noise is gone,
And there is only you and I,
On our Oasis in midst the chaos.
